Middle School Curriculum – Grades 6–8

2026–2027 Academic Year

The Middle School Program at Iqra Nejashi Islamic School provides students in Grades 6–8 with a strong academic foundation based on the Ontario Curriculum while integrating Islamic education, character development, technology, and preparation for secondary school.

1. English Language

The English Language program develops strong reading, writing, communication, and critical-thinking skills. Students study:

• Reading comprehension and literature
• Grammar, spelling, and vocabulary
• Paragraph and essay writing
• Narrative, descriptive, and persuasive writing
• Research and report writing
• Oral communication and public speaking
• Media and digital literacy
• Critical analysis and independent thinking

Students progressively develop the academic literacy required for successful transition to Grade 9.

2. Mathematics

The Mathematics program develops problem-solving, reasoning, computational, and practical mathematical skills. Students study:

• Number sense and operations
• Fractions and decimals
• Ratios, rates, and percentages
• Integers and rational numbers
• Algebra, patterns, and equations
• Geometry and measurement
• Data management and probability
• Financial literacy
• Mathematical modelling

Students are prepared with the mathematical foundation required for Grade 9 Mathematics.

3. Science & Technology

Students develop scientific knowledge through investigation, experimentation, research, and practical activities. Areas of study include:

4. Social Studies, History & Geography

Students develop an understanding of Canada, its history, geography, government, and relationship with the world. Areas include:

• Physical and human geography
• Population and settlement

The program encourages responsible citizenship and understanding of Canada’s diverse society.

5. French as a Second Language

The French program develops basic and intermediate communication skills through:

Students develop confidence in using French in practical and academic situations.

6. Health & Physical Education

The Health and Physical Education program promotes active, healthy, and responsible living. Students participate in:

9. Qur’an Studies

The Qur’an program develops students’ relationship with the Qur’an through:

• Qur’anic vocabulary

• Islamic morals and lessons from the Qur’an
• Application of Qur’anic teachings in daily life

Students may be grouped according to their Qur’an reading and memorization levels.

10. Islamic Studies

Islamic Studies provides students with a balanced understanding of Islamic beliefs, worship, history, and character. Students study:

• Salah, fasting, Zakah, and Hajj
• Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
• Lives of the Prophets
• Sahabah and the Rightly Guided Caliphs
